Our heart is an electrical pump which under normal condition keeps on generating the electricity, required by the muscle cells for its contraction and thereby producing Heart beat. But sometimes due to problem in electrical stimulation, no Heart beat is produced resulting in condition called Sudden Cardiac Arrest. This reduces blood supply to brain and other vital organs, and subsequently victim may die. It has been estimated that about 90%victims die even before reaching hospital. But thankfully, use of AED brings down the mortality rate considerably. So it is advised to have it where ever possible.

AED (automated External Defibrillator.) is helpful to restore a heart to normal condition. It is an electronic device which automatically diagnoses the heart rhythm and determines if a shock is needed. In other words it helps in reversing the uncoordinated contraction of cardiac muscle by discharging the electric current from defibrillator. This equipment is designed in such a way that it can be used even by a common man.

Here, first aid can be an AED (Automated External Defibrillator). It sends electrical signal through heart and brings back the heart rhythm to normal motion. However if AED is used in conjunction with CPR, It can increase a SCA victim's chance of survival by 75%.
